Mrs. Upton Died Tuesday Morning

Mrs. Mary Charlotte Upton, aged 40, of 819 Washington street, SW died in a local hospital at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday of injuries suffered in an auto accident here ten days ago. Mrs. Upton had been in a critical condition ever since the accident on a local street intersection when she was pinned under the car.

She was the daughter of Ben and Birdie Smith Nettles of Hampton and was born in Hampton. She was an active member of the First Methodist Church and also took an active part in PTA work being president of the Camden High School Parent Teacher Council.

She was a leader in youth activity work here also and worked with young people both in the church and in the schools.

She is survived by her husband, J. C. Upton, two daughters, Betsy and Dinah Upton, and her mother Mrs. Birdie Crosnoe, all of Camden.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the First Methodist Church by Dr. Roy I. Bagley and Rev. Howard Childs.

Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery by Proctor funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Wyley Elliott, Donald Broach, Goodwin White, Doyne Hunnicutt, Calvin Spain, Roy Snider, Paul Bennett, and Lloyd Jacks.
