Young Matron Dies After Sudden Illness

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Garrett Strong, 24, of route 6 Jackson, died Tuesday at a local hospital following a brief illness.

She was a native of Hinds county and a member of the Southside Baptist Church.

Survivors include her parents Mr. and Mrs. Clarence B. Garrett, Jackson, and her husband Purell [sic Perrel] Strong all of route 6 Jackson; and one son, Jessie Strong; and one brother, Andrew Garrett of New Orleans; four sisters, Mrs. T. G. Carroll and Mrs. Minnie Smith, both of Jackson, and Mrs. W. L. Mace and Mrs. Morris Griffin of route 6 Jackson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Baldwin Funeral chapel, with Rev. Andrew Gallman, pastor of the West Park Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in the Pearson cemetery in Rankin county.

Pallbearers are B. C. Conerly and J. Conerly, Walter Silence, Malcolm Foy, and Lamar Griffin.
