Death of Estimable Lady
The many friends and relatives of Mrs. J. B. Lowrey were deeply grieved to
learn of her death, which occurred Monday night, after an illness of several weeks
following an attack of influenza, which at her age weakened her so she could not
regain strength enough to recover. Mrs. Lowrey has not been very strong for
several years, but was full of energy and very cheerful, and glad to welcome her
friends at all times. She was a member of the Baptist Church and a lovely
Christian character. She was 71 years of age, widow of the late J. B. Lowrey, a
brave soldier in the War Between the States. She was a loyal daughter of the
South and remained true to its principles to the end.
She is survived by three
sons, Messrs. Earl, Clyde and Sydney Lowrey, two daughters, Miss Della Lowrey
and Mrs. Guy Lighon [sic Ligon], one brother, Mr. W. N. Thomas, and a sister, Mrs. Alice
Lowrey of River Bend.
Funeral services were held at the home of the deceased
Wednesday morning, Rev. R. F. Stuckey, pastor of the West Blocton Baptist
Church, conducting the service, with prayers offered by Rev. Roy Hewlett, pastor
of the M. E. Church, and Rev. Phifer of Birmingham.
The interment was made at
Mt. Carmel Cemetery, a large number of relatives and friends following the
remains to their last resting place. Profuse and lovely floral offerings bore silent
testimony of the high esteem in which this good woman was held.
