Mary Wellons Dockery Dufty
Mrs. Dufty went home to be with her Lord and Savior and the Angels who went before her on June 28, 2008. She was born on March 4, 1913, daughter of the late James Andrew and Florence Lassiter Wellons, in Smithfield, NC. She graduated from St. Mary's College in Raleigh and spent most of her life in Rockingham, NC, with her husband, the late Nicholas West Dockery, Sr. She later married Delmar Adam Dufty of Danville, VA, and spent many happy years traveling until his death. Mary volunteered for the American Cancer Society of Richmond County and was active in many other charitable organizations. She loved to feed and watch her birds, and she loved to work in her flower and vegetable gardens.
Mrs. Dufty is survived by her son, Nicholas West Dockery, Jr. and wife Sarah; one granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Dockery; and one grandson, Nicholas West Dockery, III, of Charlotte, NC.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at the Arbors of the Carriage Club of Charlotte for their loving care of Mrs. Dufty for the past eight years. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 3:00 pm, on Monday, June 30, 2008, at the Chapel of Sardis Presbyterian Church. Cremation services entrusted with Goodin-Drum Funeral Home 828-428-2136.
