Mary Etta Wardlaw Hammit
December 25, 1922 - March 25, 2014

Mary Etta Wardlaw Hammit, 91, widow of Ray Turknett, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 in Stephenville.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, March 28th at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Werth Mayes officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM (one hour prior to services) on Friday at Stephenville Funeral Home.

Mary Etta was born on December 25, 1922 in Hale County to the late Roy Eathan and Harriett Audney Applewhite Wardlaw. She married Kenneth Hammit on October 18, 1942 in Plainview. Kenneth preceded her in death September 1, 1994. She married Ray Turknett on January 20, 1996 in Stephenville. She was a member of the Needles, Thimbles, and Scissors Group, a member of the Graham Street Church of Christ, a bible school teacher, and taught with the Kindercare program at Graham Street Church of Christ. Mary Etta was a housewife, and she has lived the past 61 years in Stephenville.

Mary Etta is survived by her husband Ray Turknett of Stephenville; daughter, Sharon Edington of Goldthwaite, grandchildren, David Larner of Morgan Mill, Becky Weatherly of Bronte, Marty Larner of Stephenville, and Kirk Edington of Goldthwaite; great grandchildren, Lariat Larner, Hanna Weatherly, Whitney Edington, and Will Edington; brother, Bobby Wardlaw of Hale Center; son-in-law, Jim Evans of Morgan Mill; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Etta was also preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Hammit Evans on March 18, 2008; a son-in-law, Jack Edington; and by two brothers, Roy Eathan Buddy Wardlaw, Jr, (who died in service to his country during WWII), and William Louis Wardlaw.

The Hammit and Turknett family wish expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to Foster's Home for Children in Stephenville.
