Mary Helen Tompkins-Young

MESA, AZ - Mary Helen Tompkins-Young was born October 9, 1929 in Shreveport, LA, the daughter of Maude Reeves Tompkins and Roy Tompkins.

She attended local schools and graduated from Fair Park. She entered nurses training at Old Charity, after becoming an R.N. she went to New York where she took special training. She was a scrub nurse and worked with local surgeons doing surgery. Mary was very likeable and made many friends in her life-time.

She married Cliff Young. After Cliff was offered a good position with Ford Motor Company in Long Beach, California, they moved to California with daughter Becky Young. Mary and Cliff raised their children in West Minster, California. When Cliff died, Mary moved back to Shreveport - she later moved to Mesa, Arizonia to live with her daughter Becky Young-Lopez. Becky took wonderful care of Mary when she became ill.

She passed away March 5, 2010 after a long courages battle with cancer. Mary was preceded in death by husband Cliff Young; son, Cliff Young; Mother, Maude Tompkins and two brothers.

She is survived by daughters: Becky Lopez and husband Bob and Holly Young; 5 grandsons; sister, Polly Lunebring of Shreveport; 3 nephews, 2 nieces, several great nieces and nephews who thought the world of (Aunt Sackey) a nickname that her brother-in-law Herman Lunebring named her just for fun.

She will really be missed by her whole family that loved her very much.
