Funeral services for Mary Janie Guice, 99, of Sicily Island were held Tuesday at Pine Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Clois Cole and the Rev. Lawrence Hailey officiating.
Interment followed at Old Pine Hill Cemetery near Sicily Island under the direction of Riser First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mrs. Guice died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at Natchez Regional Hospital.
``Miss Janie'' as she was known, was born to the union of Willie Dempsey and Georgeann Langston on Oct. 18, 1897 in Oakvale, Miss. She was a homemaker and a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church in Sicily Island. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Fielding Guice, and a son, Woodie Dempsey Guice.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Muriel Ophelia and John Richard Wells, Sicily Island; Virginia Elois and Bishop Monroe of Ruston; four sons and three daughters-in-law, John Friley Guice, Sicily Island; Herd Nathaniel and Pauline Guice, Baton Rouge; Lester Langston and Golide Guice; Loma Dean and Leona Guice, all of Sicily Island; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren, all whom loved and cherished their Grandma Guice.
Pallbearers were Joe Wells, Kenneth Monroe, Son Guice, Greg Guice, Stanley Guice, Jon Keith Guice and Todd Guice.
Honorary pallbearers were Ronnie Volentine, Bob Hill, James Carpenter, Eddie Delhoste, Jimmy Farmer, Dewayne Guice, Keith Guice, Richard Longman, Graig Ensminger, and Bruce Edmonds.
