Mary Emmons

Mrs. Emmons, age 88 of Crockett, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at Houston County Nursing Home. Mrs. Emmons was born October 10, 1917 in Childress County to Samuel C. Day and Ina Belle Crisp Day. Mrs. Emmons was a L.V.N. nurse and worked for 35 years for the Grapeland Hospital, Grapeland Nursing Home, Houston County Nursing Home, Whitehall Nursing Home, Crockett Clinic, and Leisure Lodge. Mrs. Emmons was a member of the Countryside Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children Oweta Wright, of Orange, Carolyn Harris and husband Jack, of Fairfield, Gwen Reed and husband Danny, of Clayton, Celia Whitehead and husband Winston, of Grapeland, Robin Emmons and wife Hye Ja, of Wisconsin, D.R. Emmons and wife Pearl Ann, of Trinity, and William Emmons and wife Peggy, of Grapeland; sister Doris Jordan, of Lubbock; 23 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents Samuel C. Day and Ina Belle Criso Day; husband Lawson D. Emmons in 1996; son-in-law Narrel Wright; sister Imagene Day; brother Clifton Day; granddaughter Katrina Wright; grand-son Sammy Emmons; and an infant granddaughter.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Mary Joe Emmons were held Thursday, April 20, at 3:00 p.m. at Countryside Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Atkinson officiating. Interment followed in Whitehead Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons Glenn Emmons, Joe Davis Harris, Craig Emmons, Brandon Emmons, Aaron Emmons, Troy Whitehead, Jody Whitehead, Doug Whitehead, Thomas Reed, and Jason Reed.

Honorary pallbearers were Kevin Harris, Keith Wright, Kyle Wright, Ryan Emmons.
