Services were held this morning for Palm Desert and Mountain Center resident Dr. Mary Lou Reed Russell, who died Sunday at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage.
She was a native of Louisiana.
Mrs. Russell earned her bachelor of arts and master's degree from the University of Texas. She received a doctorate degree from USC.
Mrs. Russell taught in the Palm Springs Unified School District until her retirement in 1980.
She was a member of the Palm Springs Daughters of the American Revolution; charter member of the Douglemonia [sic Dugdemona] DAR of Jonesboro, La.; a member of the Cape Ann chapter of Colonial Dames XVII Century (serving as president); member of the Desert Club and the Palm Springs Desert Museum among others.
She is survived by two sisters, Medora Reed Lashlee of Abilene, Texas and Earline Reed Earhart of San Angelo, Texas; her brother, Joseph Arnold Reed of Berryville, Ark., and by many nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Murray Russell, preceded her in death.
Wiefels and Son mortuary in Palm Springs was in charge of arrangements.
