Mary Lou Thurmon Oglesby
Mary Lou Thurmon Oglesby, 101, of Bernice, Louisiana, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at her home.
Born May 10, 1907, in Summerfield, Louisiana, the daughter of Newt Thomas Tanner and Mae Stella Wason Tanner, she worked as a nurse's aide at Bernice Nursing Home and was a member of Hebron Baptist Church in Summerfield. She loved her grandchildren, crocheting, people, flowers, cooking, church and animals.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, S. E. Thurmon and Minor Oglesby; sons, Jack and Joe Thurmon; brothers, Earnest, Olan and Melton “Jake” Tanner; and great granddaughter, Candi Link.
Survivors include two sons, Mack Thurmon and wife Mary Jo of Lillie, LA and Donald Thurmon and wife Louise of Monroe, LA; three daughters, Gene Justen and Alice Owen of El Dorado and Frances Green of Emerson; a daughter-in-law, Bettye Thurmon of El Dorado; special nephew, Charles Gay Tanner of El Dorado; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 2pm Saturday at Hebron Baptist Church in Summerfield with Rev. Kenneth Nutt officiating. Interment will follow at the church's cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
Visitation will be from 5-8pm Friday at the funeral home and from 1-2pm Saturday at the church.
