Mary Olive Moore Hebert
Mary Olive Moore Hebert. 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville, NC, surrounded by her loving children.
Mary was born in Winnfield, Louisiana, and grew up in Minden, Louisiana. She was the daughter of the late Luther Carter and Ida Louise Wallace Moore. Following graduation from Minden High School, Mary attended and graduated from Louisiana College in Pineville. While in college, she was part of the Louisiana College Trio, which performed at many area churches and for servicemen during the war.
After college, she met and married Fred J. Hebert, Jr. in 1948. Fred and Mary moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1957 for Fred to take a position with the Federal Highway Administration. Fred and Mary were active members of Goodwood Baptist Church, and later of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. Mary served as choir director and led the music ministry at Goodwood Baptist. At Broadmoor Baptist, she sang in the choir, played in the handbell choir and accompanied many groups, such as the Broadmoor Belles, and served in many leadership capacities, including attending state Baptist conventions, serving on numerous committees, chairing committees, and teaching Sunday School.
Mary was always interested in learning more about her faith, and was an active participant in the church's outreach ministries, such as the Southeast Ministries of Baton Rouge. For several years, Mary studied the Bible under Father Jacques, taught English as a second language to internationals, and started a Sunday School Class at Broadmoor Baptist in her late 70's.
Fred and Mary moved to Greenville, NC in 2006 to be near their son and daughter-in-law, where they were members of Immanuel Baptist Church. Mary was a wonderful mother who was very supportive of her children and grandchildren. One of the grandchildren's favorite summertime memories was “Camp Me-Mom” which included trips to the beach, zoo outings, and educational enrichment programs.
Music was one of the great joys of Mary's life. She began learning to play the piano at an early age, majored in music in college, and blessed many people with her musical abilities throughout her life. She was a great blessing to the unit worship services at Cypress Glen while a resident there. She was a living example of Psalm 100:1-2: “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness; come before His presence with singing.”
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 62 years, Fred J. Hebert, Jr.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Barbara Hebert of Greenville, NC; a daughter, Marianne Hebert of Baton Rouge, La.; a sister, Ethel May Moore Emmons of Waco, Tx.; a brother, Luther W. Moore and his wife Claire of Minden, La., a sister-in-law, Dorothy Hebert Wilson of Bossier City, La, a sister-in-law, Anne Foley Hebert of Chicago, Il.; several nieces and nephews; four grandchildren, Davis Hebert and his wife Tammy of Charlotte, NC; Mary Hebert Dawson and her husband Brian of Abingdon, Va.; Emilie Hebert Williams and her husband Jamie of Asheville, NC; Carissa Cervantez Weaver and her husband Michael of Rowlett, Tx.; four great-grandsons, and one great-granddaughter.
