Mary Stuart Simonton
May 12, 1920 - October 31, 2013

Shreveport, LA -- Mary Stuart Simonton, a longtime resident of Shreveport, died peacefully on October 31, 2013. She was born on May 12, 1920, in Jackson Parish, Louisiana. Mary Stuart moved to Shreveport with her parents, Dr. Edwin Caldwell Simonton, Sr. and Florence Peters Simonton and her brother, Dr. Edwin Caldwell Simonton, Jr., in the 1920's. They built a home on Oneonta Street where Mary Stuart resided most of her 93 years.

Mary Stuart attended Baylor University and graduated from Dodd College which occupied the same site on Ockley Drive as the First Baptist Church of Shreveport.

Mary Stuart lived a life that outwardly appeared to be a “quiet” existence. Her love of books and reading propelled her heart and mind into faraway places and daring adventures. Mary Stuart was justifiably proud in her claim to have read every volume in the library of the First Presbyterian Church.

Mary Stuart was a devoted medical transcriptionist for over 65 years to Dr. Clarence Webb and her brother, Dr. Edwin Simonton, Jr. and was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed her work as a deacon and as a teacher of three year olds. Her constant companion for many years, her beloved dog, Dolly, was her escort on daily walks the cumulative distance of which would undoubtedly circle the globe.

A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at Forest Park Cemetery. Mary Stuart is survived, loved and adored by a host of nieces and nephews, and by her dear cousins.

The family requests that any donations in her memory be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 900 Jordan Street, Shreveport, LA.
