MRS. OSCAR H. SIMMONS
Mrs. Oscar H. Simmons, 87, of the Garden Valley Community, passed away on Sunday, January 14, in the New Perry Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 PM Tuesday, January 16, from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Sidney Jones officiating. Burial followed in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Hudson Whatley, Brown Perry, Elizah Simmons, John G. Simmons, Hallie Barfield of Thomaston, and R. C. Barfield of Butler.
Mrs. Simmons, the former Mary Susan Whatley, was born on September 11, 1885 in Macon County, the daughter of the late Thomas and Laura Lucius Whatley. She spent her entire life in Macon County and had been a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for over 60 years.
Survivors include her husband, Oscar H. Simmons of Oglethorpe, one son, Lawrence Simmons of Oglethorpe; three daughters, Mrs. Lucille S. Lipford of Franklin, Ga., Mrs. Laura S. Clonts of Rocky Mountain, N.C. and Mrs. Leila S. Crawford of Cullman, Ala., one sister, Miss Victoria Whatley of Oglethorpe; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Goddard Funeral Home of Reynolds was in charge of funeral arrangements.
