Mrs. Hyman McCarty Buried at Shubuta
SHUBUTA, Nov. 24 -- Mrs. Hyman McCarty, who died at her home in Gordo, Ala., after a very short illness, was buried here. Funeral services were conducted here at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Wathersby [sic Wetherbee] by Rev. J. W. Dawson with Rev. H. D. Wilson assisting.
“Jesus Lover of My Soul,” “How Firm a Foundation,” and “Lead Kindly Light” were sung by L. B. Fairchild, Miss Mary Weems, Mrs. A. P. Hand and L. T. Rogers with Mrs. Mamie Dabbs at the piano. Miss Mary Weems then sang, “A Few More Years to Roll.”
The pall bearers were Messrs. R. C. Weems. G. S. Weems, Jr., L. B. Fairchild, L. T. Rogers, and W. F. Hardwick, with Messrs. Jno. Patton, L. D. Patton, Jim Weems, Fred Stephenson, J. B. Graham, Dr. A. P. Hand, C. W. Leggett and W. E. Calhoun as honorary pall bearers.
Hosts of friends gathered from far and near to pay their respects to the loveable girl they remember as Mary Weatherbee [sic Wetherbee], and the large and beautiful floral offerings were a token of the high esteem she merited. Interment was in the Shubuta cemetery with W. J. Patton in charge.
