Former police chief dies
Matthew Edward O'Brien, 67, former East Las Vegas police chief, died Wednesday afternoon in an Albuquerque hospital after an illness.
Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Strong-Thorne Mortuary in Albuquerque. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Albuquerque with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Charewicz officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Albuquerque.
O'Brien moved to Albuquerque from Las vegas in 1961. He was a security guard for Albuquerque National Bank.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Karen Mitchell of Albuquerque and two grandchildren.
