Mattie Oleane Mccord
Mattie McCord, 93, of Port Arthur, died Friday, August 19, 2011, at her home in Port Arthur. She was born on August 8, 1918 in Fisher, LA to Adolphus and Minnie Adams.
She married Carl McCord on February 22, 1936 in Louisiana and they moved to Port Arthur shortly after where she remained a resident. Her main passion in life was caring for and taking care of her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, catering, and gardening. She was well known for her chicken and dumplings, carrot cake, and fruitcakes at Christmas. She worked at Full Gospel Church for over 30 years in childcare.
Mattie is preceded in death by her late husband, Carl; parents, Adolphus and Minnie Adams; son, Ralph McCord; grandson, Travis Romero; great-grandson, Chea Romero and 7 siblings.
She is survived by daughters, Carlie Waite and husband Pat of Nederland, Loretta Lee and fiancé Buddy Derouen of Port Arthur, Donnis Romero and husband Rodney of Groves; daughter-in-law, Nereana McCord of Mauriceville; son, Alton McCord and wife Carline of Port Neches and a host of wonderful, devoted grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation will held on Sunday, August 21, 2011, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, Port Arthur.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 22, 2011 in the Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves.
