Today is not a day of mourning or fairwells but rather a day of remembrance. For today, Sister Mattie Dey walks on the streets of gold and lives in her heavenly mansion with Jesus Christ. Mom was born October 10, 1938 in Jonesville where she grew up on the banks of Little River. In her early years, mules and an old Cyprus boat were the primary means used to travel back-and-forth to school, town and church. As a family rich in Christian values, this would be the foundation that would forever be her legacy. Neither rain, sleet, snow or shine (Louisiana Heat) could keep her from the doors of First Pentecostal Church. With deep religious roots, she made sure her children understood the importance of serving Jesus Christ. As the children grew, they too would learn the teachings of Jesus Christ through Sunday School, evening worship services, camp ground meetings, dinner-on-the-ground, and old time revivals.

Through Mother's life long journey, she touched many lives and made many friends. When people met Mattie they knew she was a child of God. She never met a stranger and songs of Jesus Christ radiated from her like a beacon in the night. Through her work as a home health care provider, she had the opportunity to witness to others as she would read her bible to the weak and dying. As the years and people she sat with passed, loved ones of those families continued to stay in touch as they too felt the love and warmth of Moms love.

While Mother will be missed by her family and friends, the smile on her face, the love and warmth in her heart will be remembered for years to come.
