M. C. “Sonny” Jackson
Maury Chestley “Sonny” Jackson, Jr., 76, of Olla, died Monday, August 20, 2001,
at his residence following an extended illness.
A retired salesman, Jackson had been a resident of LaSalle Parish for many years.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in World War II.
He was born June 19, 1925, in Texas to the union of Maury Chestley Jackson, Sr.,
and Myrtle Williams Jackson. He was affectionately known by his family as “Pa-Paw.”
Services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the chapel of Riser Funeral
Home in Olla with the Revs. Donnie Boney, Rodney Begnaud, and Michael McConnehau
officiating. Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery under direction of Riser of Olla.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Lisenby Jackson of Olla; three sons, David
Jackson of Waskom, Tx., Maury Wayne Jackson of Calhoun and Jerry Paul Jackson of
Grayson; two daughters, Beverly Mitchell of Olla and Sandy Callender of Urania;
one sister, Betty Whitfield of Waskom, Tx.; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Chris Mitchell, Rocky Mitchell, Ashley Mitchell, Chad Jackson,
Maury Joe Jackson, and Lane Callender.
Derrick Callender served as an honorary pallbearer.
