Mavis Dawson, Gloster
1927 - 2008

GLOSTER -- Services for Mavis Dawson, 81, of Gloster, who died Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at Field Memorial Community Hospital, in Centreville, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Odus Jackson and the Rev. Jerry Williams officiating.

Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Brown Funeral Home in Gloster. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dawson was born Aug. 11, 1927, in Carthage, the daughter of J.D. and Bonnie Grace Brantley McPhail. She was self-employed, mostly in the logging business, but was involved in many other types of work, from cosmetology to food services.

Mrs. Dawson was a loving mother and grandmother and was a longtime loyal supporter of Pine Hills Academy in Gloster.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mann Dawson; one son, Robert White; one granddaughter; Callie Lea; and two stepchildren, Agnes and Maurice.

Survivors include one daughter, Patsy Towles and husband, Ray; one son, Joey Dawson, all of Gloster; two brothers, John McPhail and wife, Frances, and Joe McPhail and wife, Jean; eight stepchildren, Edith, Alpha, Trish, Bobby Wayne, Larry, Gaylon, Stanley and Raymond; seven grandchildren, Jessica Andrews and husband, Jeremy, Brandi Wilson and husband, Caleb, Dylan White, Emily White, Joey Mann Dawson, Kyle Towles and Melissa Dawson; and three great-grandchildren, Hunter Wilson, Haze Andrews and River Wilson.
