Maxene Calvert

BETHANY, LA - Maxene Calvert, age 74, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, October 2, 2008. Maxene was born May 5, 1934, in Fort Necessity, LA.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 4, 2008 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Southside. Funeral service will be held Sunday, October 5, 2008 at 3:00 pm at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Southside, officiated by Ken Fryer, assisted by Bro. Joe Bob Alexander both of First Baptist Church Greenwood, with burial to follow at Forest Park Cemetery West. Pallbearers will be Jason McMullen, Harold McMullen, Paul Hill, Bubba Parish, Charlie Parker, and Joey Presley.

Maxene was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jack; sons, Jay and wife Donna of Houston, Texas, and Scott and wife Tracy of Stonewall, LA; brother, Danny Simon and children Daniel and Rachel, and three granddaughters, Lauren Calvert, Lindsay Calvert, and Molly Calvert, with a 4th grandchild expected in February. Special family members include Jason and Amy McMullen and their children Shelby and Logan.

Mrs. Calvert is preceded in death by her father, Roy Clinton Simon, and her mother Mary Fife Simon.

Maxene began her career in May 1952 as a telephone operator for Southern Bell. She continued through the transition to South Central Bell in various positions and retired in 1986 after 33 years of dedicated service.

Maxene was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church Shreveport for over 30 years and was a current member of First Baptist Church Greenwood. If you wish, donations can be made in her honor to the First Baptist Church Greenwood Youth Fund, 7042 Howell Street, Greenwood, Louisiana 71033.
