Maxie Mae Smithwick
OLNEY -- Maxie Smithwick, a former Olney resident, age 95, of Arlington, Texas, died Monday, December 22, 2008, in Arlington.
Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2008, at Lunn Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney, Texas, with the Rev. Andy Graham, pastor of the Southside Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Restland Cemetery under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home.
Maxie was born June 15, 1913, in Benjamin, Texas, to the late J. H. and Laura Jane (McCarty) Ueckert. Maxie graduated from Benjamin High School in 1931 where she was an avid tennis player achieving to state competition. She and Howard Otis Smithwick were married February 27, 1937, in Lampasas, Texas. He preceded her in death June 22, 1982. She moved to the Masonic Retirement Center in Arlington, Texas, in 1990 from Olney. She was a homemaker, worked as a clerk for Mott's 5 and 10, and Perkins-Timberlake. She also was a hostess/cashier at Rodge's Cafe. She was a member of the B and PW Club, and a Red Cross volunteer active in local blood drives. She was a member at both the First Christian Church and the First United Methodist Church of Olney. She is preceded in death by one daughter, Dawn McDaris on August 6, 2004; and one brother, Thomas Ueckert.
Survivors include three daughters, Janette Ross and husband Phillip of Frisco, Texas, Regina Carnley and husband Boyd of Lake Kiowa, and Kerlene Ross and husband Butch of Lake Kiowa, Texas; eleven grandchildren, Trish Holloway and husband Keith of Sherman, Texas, Carla Inge and husband Larry of Olney, Texas, Howard McDaris and wife Debbie of Burkburnett, Texas, Michael McDaris and wife Jill of Denison, Texas, Teresa Halfmann and husband Pat of Pottsboro, Texas, Tina Thrasher and husband Marvin of Montgomery, Texas, Clif Carnley and wife Rajonia of Van Alstyne, Texas, Sheryl Ciaccio and husband Joey of Denison, Texas, Albert Carnley and wife Dianne of McKinney, Texas, Kristi Gray and husband Kent of Borger, Texas, and Lynnette Williams and husband Warren of Forney, Texas; and twenty-nine great-grandchildren.
