Melton W. Walley Buried In Greene
Leakesville -- Funeral services for Melton W. Walley, 64, were held Friday morning at Sand Hill Baptist church 22 miles northwest of here, with his pastor, Rev. T. R. Coulter Jr., officiating. He was assisted by Rev. J. T. Echols, Presbyterian pastor and Rev. Wayne Hart, pastor of the Baptist church, both of Leakesville.
Mr. Walley died Wednesday afternoon in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sherman Powell, following a year's illness. He was a member of a prominent Greene county family, was born, reared and lived most of his life in the Sand Hill com[m]unity. He was a Baptist and a Mason.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Grace Walley, Sand Hill; five sons and five daughters as follows; Mrs. Sherman Powell, Leakesville, Mrs. Glen McLain, Richton, Mrs. James Hale, Mobile, Carl Walley, Montagut, Louisiana, Joe Walley, Richton, Mrs. Lauren McKinney, Beaverton, Michigan, Rayburn Walley, Battle Creek, Michigan, Pvt. Burnie Walley, Ft. Jackson, South Carolina; Mary Cathryn and John Braxton Walley, Sand Hill; 18 grand children and two great grand children; four brothers, Riley and Joe, Richton; Murdock, sisters, Mrs. George Ragland, Richton and Miss Cynthia Walley, Hattiesburg.
Burial was in the Sand Hill cemetery with Masonic rites at the graveside.
