Funeral services for Mr. Melvin E. Blakeney, 81, of West Monroe, LA will be at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at Lapine Assembly of God Church, West Monroe. Officiating will be Rev. Mildred Lenard and Rev. Charles Tolbird. Burial will follow at Lapine Assembly of God Church Cemetery.

Melvin was born October 20, 1923 in Ouachita Parish to Charlie and Pearl Blakeney. He passed away June 12, 2005 in West Monroe.

Mr. Blakeney was retired from Entergy after 39 1/2 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army. Mr. Blakeney was of the Assembly of God faith. He loved the outdoors, was an avid gardener, and he grew vegetables to give to the community.

Mr. Blakeney is survived by his wife of 58 years Violet A. Blakeney; three sons: Roger Blakeney and wife Myrl, Bobby Foster and wife Edna, Harold Foster and wife Evelyn all of West Monroe, LA. He was “PaPaw” to eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers, Joe Lindsey, Joseph Lindsey, Daniel Blakeney, Donnie Foster, and Shane Foster and Jody Chilton.

Visitation will be 9:00 AM until service time at the church.
