Melvin Finuf
Melvin Alton Finuf Sr., 58, of 463 Sandefur St., died Tuesday at the Schumpert Medical Center after a short illness.
A native of Adner, he was a lifelong resident of Shreveport where he was division vice president for planning with Riley-Beaird, Inc.
Mr. Finuf joined the company in 1935 in the pattern shop of the foundry of what then was the J. B. Beaird Co. He was awarded the American Machine & Foundry Achievement Award in 1966 for outstanding performance and in April 1975 received a 40-year service award.
Mr. Finuf was named by the State Superintendent of Education to serve on the advisory committee for the planning and coordination of vocational training programs for the state. He was an active member of the Downtown Shreveport Lions Club, the American Institute of Industrial Engineers, the American Production and Inventory Control Society, the Shreveport Cub and the Broadmoor United Methodist Church.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Broadmoor United Methodist Church with Dr. Jack Cooke, pastor, officiating. The Rev. David Bryson, pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church and the Rev. James Stovall, pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Monroe, will assist. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery under the direction of the Rose-Neath Funeral Home.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Evelyn Stovall Finuf, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Finuf Sr., two sons, Melvin A. Finuf Jr. and Charles M. Finuf Sr., one daughter, Anne Teresa Finuf, all of Shreveport; one sister, Mrs. M. D. Lawson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, M. W. Finuf Jr., of Zwolle; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be W. E. Adams, George Dillard, James S. Richey, C. R. Kierbow, W. W. Sentell, Lester Morehead, Jack Ward and Frank T. Lay.
The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to Broadmoor United Methodist Church or to the American Heart Fund in the name of Melvin A. Finuf Sr.
