Melvin Ratcliff
Melvin ``Mel'' Hewitt Ratcliff, 80 of Summit, MS died March 17, 2010 at his residence.
Mr. Ratcliff was born February 7, 1930 in the Auburn Community of Lincoln County to the late James Rankin Ratcliff Sr. and Ella Magee Ratcliff.
He was a 1949 graduate of Auburn High School and served in the United States Army Reserves. He worked in Jackson for many years in the automotive industry and 21 years for Day Motors as their service manager. In 1986 he was a founding partner in opening Midway Auto Parts and Service. Mr. Ratcliff was a member of First Baptist Church in Summit. He was a humble servant of God ad served his community in many ways. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; Hattie Parker, three brothers; Louis J. ``Ned'' Ratcliff, Lenox ``Tony'' Ratcliff, and James Rankin Ratcliff Jr., and twin granddaughters; Jessica Hope and Jane Ellen Wilson.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years Doloris Temple Ratcliff of Summit; three daughters; Donna R. Harriel and her husband Mike of Clinton, LA, Lisa R. Goforth and her husband Ray of Lafayette, LA, Karen R. McPherson and her husband Ron of Collinsville, MS; one son Mark Ratcliff and his wife Casey of Watson, LA; two sisters; Christine Dobbs and her husband Miller of Bridge City, TX and Minnie Newell of Seal Beach, CA, grandchildren; Michelle Wilson Barfoot and her husband Brian, Trey, Courtney and Hannah McPherson of Collinsville, MS, Skylar and Reece Ratcliff of Watson, LA, great grandchildren; Marley Grace Barfoot and Samuel Thomas Barfoot, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 until 8 PM at Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb and continues Friday from 1:00 PM until services there at 2:00 PM. Dr. Larry LeBlanc, Rev. Pat Lofton and Dr. Oliver Young will officiate. Burial will follow at the Auburn Community Cemetery in Lincoln County.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Wells, Brandon and Cameron Parker, Brennan Dobbs, Tray Bradshaw and Brian Barfoot.
Honorary pallbearers will be Floyd Lee Westbrook, Jim Reeves, Lamar Roberts, Philip King, Charles Wallace, Pat Shanks, Darell Stewart, George Michael Wilson, Wayne Dobbs, Billy Biggers, Hal Parker, Jess Tackitt, John Hancock, James Rankin Ratcliff III, Dr. Oliver Young and the Senior Adult Sunday school class.
