Services for Melvin O. Cody, Sr., age 78 of Alexandria will be held at 3:00 PM, Monday, September 5, 2005 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Mary Beth Foye and Pastor David Walker officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Bethel Cemetery west of Clarks.

Mr. Cody was born in Clarks, LA on April 12, 1927 to the union of Doyle Marshall and Pearl Reitzell Cody and died Saturday, September 3, 2005 at the St. Francis Cabrinia Medical Center in Alexandria.

He was a retired plant manager with La. Pacific Corporation. He previously worked for Roy O. Martin Lumber Co. with a total of thirty-three years of service between the two companies. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Army. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Alexandria.

Survivors include his wife: Dorothy Kontney Cody of Alexandria, his sons: Melvin Cody, Jr. of Hessmer and Doyle Joseph Cody and his wife: Stephanie of Lecompte, his daughters: Debra Cody Hughes and her husband: Ronnie of Lecompte, Brenda Cody Caskey of Glenmora and Melva Cody Slaughter and her husband: Billy of Alexandria, his grandchildren: Quentin Caskey, Christopher Hughes, Amanda Caskey, Melissa Cormier, Stacy Hughes, Renee Caskey, Melvin Cody, III., Layla Caskey, Joan Cody, Grace Cody and D. J. Cody, his great-grandchildren: David Cormier and Darron Reeves, and his sisters: Mildred Cody Parker of Columbia, Marjorie Cody Caldwell and Bobby Cody Hawthorne both of West Monroe.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Hughes, Quentin Caskey, Andy Hawthorne, Glenn Henderson, Stephen Parker, Melvin Cody, III., Scott Caldwell and Doug Caldwell.

Any planned memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Alexandria or your favorite charity.

Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 AM until time of services at the funeral home.
