Melvin White Sr.
GULFPORT -- Melvin White Sr., 81, died Sunday, June 13, 1999, in Biloxi.
Mr. White was a native of Smith County and had been a Gulf Coast resident since 1963. He retired from the Army in 1962 after more than 20 years of service, having served in the South Pacific, Korea and France. He received the Good Conduct Medal with silver clasp and one loop, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze stars, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, U.N. Service Medal and Meritorious Unit Citation. Mr. White retired from the VA after 21 years of service and attended New Hope Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Lottie M. White; his wife, Geneva K. White; and a brother, Hubert White.
Survivors include four sons, Danny Devlin-White of Los Molinos, Calif., Kenneth Roy White, Melvin White and David White, all of Gulfport; three daughters, Agnes White, Rhonda Roeder and Melissa Lucas, all of Gulfport; three brothers, Dale White and Ernest White, both of Texas, and Hulin [sic Hulen] White of Miss.; two sisters, Pauline Yelverton of Petal and Helmer [sic Hilmar] Parker of Ellisville; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Riemann Memorial Funeral Home, U.S. 49 North in Gulfport. A service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel, with burial in Evergreen Gardens in Gulfport.
