Merle Laughlin Spinks
Merle Laughlin Spinks, 92, of Lake Charles, LA went to be with the Lord on November 21, 2015.
Merle was born on November 2, 1923 in Branch, LA to James W. Laughlin and Loyce Laughlin McClain. She is a 1941 graduate of Eunice High School and Sowela Technical Institute in 1978. She has resided in Lake Charles, LA, for the past 50 years after moving from Natchitoches, LA.
Mrs. Merle was an employee with Dale Bernard at State Farm for 15 years before becoming a 25 year employee with 20/20 Vision Clinic. She was a proud member of Trinity Baptist Church and attended the ladies Sunday school class every Sunday. Mrs. Merle enjoyed participating as a member of the J.O.Y. Choir, reading, crocheting, and traveling with her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Cheryl Spinks Mose and husband Ray, and Cindy Spinks Beatty and husband Kevin; son, Joseph E. Spinks and wife Paulette of Fort Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Melissa McElveen, and Melinda Mose; great-grandchildren, Christian Kitzmiller, and Matthew McElveen; as well as special nieces and nephews. Mrs. Merle is preceded in death by her husband, Elbert R. Spinks; parents, James W. Laughlin and Loyce Laughlin McClain; brother, Sonny Laughlin; sister, Lorraine Richard; and grandson Jonathan Beatty.
Funeral services for Mrs. Merle will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on November 25, 2015 at 10:00 AM. Reverend Steve James will officiate services. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn cemetery in Pineville, LA at 3:00 PM. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home and will resume on Wednesday morning at 8:00 AM until the service at 10:00 AM.
In closing her favorite scripture passage was “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church.
