Irene Mickey Holesovsky
(October 8, 1921 - January 19, 2013)

Mrs. Irene Meta (Mickie) Holesovsky, age 91 of Port Lavaca and a former long-time resident of Wharton and Glen Flora died Saturday, January 19, 2013 following an extended illness. She was born on October 8, 1921 in Gandy, LA the daughter of the late James Elias Arnold and Callie Belle Savelle Arnold.

She married Henry Holesovsky on June 27, 1942 in Lake Charles, LA and he preceded her in death on November 18, 1993. She was also preceded in death by a son, Buddy Holesovsky in 1997, as well as five sisters and one brother. Mickie graduated from Pisgah High School in Louisana, later obtaining a masters degree from the University of Houston. She taught Physical Education, and coached Volleyball and Basketball at Wharton and several surrounding area schools. She served as a high school counselor in El Campo prior to her retirement in 1990. Following her retirement, she served as a Volleyball Official for a number of years.

Among her accomplishments, she was instrumental in helping in the development of the UIL as the sole authority of high school sports in Texas.

Friends may call for visitation from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday, January 23rd at the Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, January 24th at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Dwayne Wise officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.

Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Sonya Holesovsky of Port Lavaca, Philip Holesovsky of Angleton; brother, J. E. Arnold of Bridge City, TX; daughter-in-law, Susan Holesovsky of Brazoria, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive

Pallbearers will be Bobby Kallas, John Cooley, Tim Barker, Earl Yackel, Johnnie Miller, and Johnny Cruz.

Honorary Pallbearers will be “HER GIRLS.”
