Michael K. Lewis
May 14, 1938 - May 19, 2015

Mr. Michael “Mickey” K. Lewis, age 77, passed away peacefully late Tuesday evening May 19th, 2015. Mickey was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on May 14, 1938. He was the younger son of R.H. Lewis and Rubye Young Lewis. He graduated from Fairpark High School in 1956, and Northwestern State University in 1961. He attended Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. He went on to receive a Masters of Social Work at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Following graduation from LSU, Mickey was employed by the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home in Ruston. In 1972, he served on the Evaluation Team of Special Education at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. Until his retirement in 2001, he was an Associate Professor at LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport and an Adjunct Professor at Centenary College.

He is preceded in death by his parents R.H. and Rubye Lewis.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dena Geurkink Lewis, and their three daughters and their families. Sara LaFortune and her husband Tom, their son Jacob of Shreveport, daughter Samantha Hirsch and her husband Chris of Ruston. Amy Sides and her husband Jeffrey, their daughters Erin and Anna of Pelham, AL. Martha Silva and her husband Jerry, and their sons Max and Jerry, and their daughter Kayla of Shreveport. Mickey was also survived by one brother, Norman Lewis and his wife Elizabeth of Haughton, LA. He was loved and cared for by extended family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Magnolia Manor and Tom Howe for their loving care and support.

You are invited to join us in a celebration of his life at a come and go affair in the parlor at Christ United Methodist Church at 1204 Crabapple Dr. in Shreveport on May 23, 2015 from 5:30pm until 7:00pm.
