Michelle Miller Rozzell

On Friday, July 22, 2005, Michelle Miller Rozzell, 46, died peacefully at her home following a courageous and determined battle with cancer. Her open arms, vibrant spirit and zest for life will be missed by her family and her legion of friends.

Michelle was born in New Braunfels, Texas, the daughter of Richard and Jo Miller. Her father worked in the space program and Michelle lived in a number of cities where NASA had facilities. However, she spent most of her life in Houston and considered it home. Following graduation from Westbury High School, she attended the University of Colorado. A summer job led her to begin a career in advertising. She worked for several publications, including Ultra Magazine and Texas Monthly.

Thereafter, she worked as a fundraiser, serving on the development staffs of the Alley Theatre and the Museum of Fine Arts. She formed her own business and for many years did fundraising for a number of non-profit organizations and a few political candidates, including Rob Mosbacher and David Dewhurst. She loved gardening, art, cooking and travel, but most of all, she loved life.

She was a member of Christ Church Cathedral, The Garden Club of Houston and the Junior League. She also served on the Board of Lawndale Art Center.

Michelle had a huge impact on each person she met. She leaves behind friends too numerous to count, each of whom was sure that she (or he) was Michelle's best friend and all of whom today have heavy hearts but wonderful memories.

She is survived by her husband and soul mate, Scott; his two daughters, Stacey and Kimberly, whom she loved as her own as she did Stacey's husband Patrick Murphree; grandparents, Henry and Dean Ellis; her father Richard and his wife Marjorie; brother Steven Miller, his wife Susan and sons Ian and Christopher; brother Richard Christian and his wife, Beata; aunts Ruth Hayter and Bonnie Luker. She was honored to be godmother to Max Bowen, George Dodd, Caroline and Matthew Hussey, Lucia Ravano and Wilson Sherrill.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Jo; her sister, Tara; and grandparents, Thomas and Effie Miller.

There will be a family visitation on Sunday, July 24, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at J.B. Earthman Tanglewood Funeral Home, 5740 San Felipe. Memorial Services will be Saturday, July 30, 4:00 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral, 1117 Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Susan G. Komen Breast Care Foundation, 2425 Fountain View Drive, #210, Houston, TX 77057; Christ Church Cathedral, 1117 Texas, Houston, TX 77002; or the Lone Star Flight Museum, 2002 Terminal Drive, Galveston, TX 77554.
