Mildred ``Top'' Bates Moore Day
July 29, 1920 - January 18, 2009

Born on July 29, 1920, in Liberty, Miss., to Richard Elkanah Bates, Sr. and Caroline Inez Brabham, she peacefully passed away on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009.

She was a resident at Landmark Retirement Center. Mildred was married first to Everette E. Moore, Sr. with whom she had four children. She then married James Clyde Day and two children were born to that union.

Mildred was retired from LSU animal science department. She was a member of the American Business Woman's Association, LA Capital Chapter, having received it's protégé award, and the Red Hat Society. During her life, she loved attending the Bengal Belle luncheons at the university. Upon retirement, she devoted her time to family and friends. It brought her great joy helping others by visiting patients and homebound seniors.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Everett E. Moore, Sr.; second husband, James Clyde Day; daughter, Patsy Ruth Moore; brothers, Dr. Carl E. Bates, David Charles ``Bill'' Bates, Richard E. ``RE'' Bates, Jr.; sister, Bessie Oneda Bates; granddaughter, Delaine Cooke Jarreau; and great-grandson, Jeremy Brandon Stafford Latino.

She is survived by her four children, Everette E. ``Buddy'' Moore, Jr. and Carolyn Moore Stafford, both of Prairieville, Virginia Moore LeJeune, of Ventress, and Clyta Day Jenkins and Victoria ``Vickie'' Day, both of Baton Rouge; brother, Hilton E. ``Gene'' Bates and wife Jerry, of Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Christie Moore Prine and husband Scott, Tracy Moore Janise and husband David, Olive Stafford Salemi and husband Maurice, Michael Stafford and wife Terri, Jimmy Stafford and wife Norma, Troy J. Stafford and wife Della, and Kurt LeJeune and wife Dana; 11 great-grandchildren.

Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Wednesday, Jan. 21, from 9a.m. until religious service at 11a.m., conducted by the Rev. Jarrett Banks. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

Pallbearers will be Michael, Troy, Jimmy, Brandon and Michael James Stafford, Kurt LeJeune and Jason Jarreau.

The family would like to extend special thanks to their mother's friends and companions, Clara ``Jean'' Jones and Naomi Montgomery for their caring love. Also, Dr. Steven Gremillion for his years of dedicated care, Hospice of Louisiana and Hospice in His Care.
