Mildred Robinson Smelley
(November 12, 1926 - August 5, 2012)

Mildred Elaine Robinson Smelley, of Bossier City, LA, passed way Sunday night at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto in Southaven, MS of a sudden illness. She was surrounded and comforted by her loved ones. Mildred was born to Charles Bruce and Bernie Ophelia Abercrombie Robinson in Danville, LA on November 12, 1926.

Mildred is preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Dollie Eloise Robinson, Bobbie Jean Robinson, and Charles Mack Robinson.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Curtis R. Smelley; three siblings, Louise Robinson Bailey of Decatur, MS, James Derwood “Bud” Robinson of Danville, LA, and Alma Faye Robinson Greer of Shreveport, LA; two children, Deborah Lynn Smelley Pace of Bossier City, LA and Kenneth “Kenny” Wayne Smelley of Mansfield, LA; three grandchildren, Malinda Smelley Partee of San Antonio, TX, Daniel Cody Pace of Pittsburgh, PA, and Christopher Bruce Smelley of Seattle, WA; and two great-granddaughters, MacKenzie Dey Partee and Hadley Kate Partee of San Antonio, TX.

In the more than 60 years she lived in Ruston, LA with her husband, Curt, Mildred raised her two children, helped manage the apartments that her husband built, and was a faithful and devoted member of Temple Baptist Church. In her last years, she resided in Bossier City, LA with her husband and daughter.

“Mema”, as she was known, will be most remembered for her endearing kindness, unwavering generosity, and unconditional love. She always had a warm, comforting smile and sincere words of encouragement. Our beautiful Mema was loved tremendously and we are lesser in her absence. We will never forget her humble but virtuous example of Christian values. Mildred Smelley will be greatly missed.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston. Rev. Dale Oden officiated the service. The service was under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.
