Mildred King Shell
Services for Mildred King Shell, 77 of Winnfield, were held at 11 a.m.
Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church in Winnfield.
Burial followed in the Garden of Memories under the direction of Southern
Funeral Home.
Mrs. Shell was born July 9, 1925 in Alexandria and died June 9, 2003, at
Rapides Regional Medical Center. She grew up in north Louisiana and graduated
from Winnfield High School in 1942. Throughout her life, she faithfully served
her family and community with steadfast devotion. She was a caring and loving
wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. A member of First United Methodist
Church of Winnfield, Mrs. Shell taught Sunday school for many years, and she
was both a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader. She was employed as a legal
secretary with Simmons and Derr of Winnfield for 25 years, and publisher of
the Winn Parish Legal Filings for 20 years.
Mrs. Shell is preceded in death by her husband, Denton Shell; one son, John
Shell; parents John and Lucy Little King; and one sister, Nancy DeLoach.
She is survived by her daughter, Elise Shell; one sister, Shirley White; five
nieces and three nephews.
Pallbearers were: L. C. Barnett, Stephen Shell, Kiah Beville, Sidney Walton,
Michael Cockerham and Ray Little.
Honorary Pallbearers were: Pete Shell, Michael Davis, Gregory Hoffpauir,
Stephen Cole, Kermit M. Simmons, Jacque Derr and Andrew White, III.
