SWENSON FUNERAL THURSDAY

Body Laid to Rest In the Kearney Cemetery

The funeral of Mrs. John Swenson, of Lincoln and Sartoria, whose death occurred at the former place on Tuesday, August 24, was held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Thursday forenoon at 11 o'clock. The services being conducted by Archdeacon George G. Ware, assisted by the vested choir. The deceased was a member of St. Luke's church and an attendant at its services during a period of several years residence in Kearney when a young son was in high school.

The only relatives present were the bereaved husband and son. John Swenson, Sr. and John Swenson, Jr., who accompanied the remains from Lincoln.

The burial service of the Episcopal church was used without a funeral discourse, the officiating rector making a brief biographical and personal announcement. Owing to the heavy rain of the evening previous, many friends of the family in the north part of the county were unable to be present.

The deceased was born March 11, 1871 in Trumbull, Ohio to S. W. and Martha Holly Powers, and died August 24, 1915 at Lincoln, Nebraska. Her parents were early residents of Kearney where her girlhood was spent. Later she taught in the schools of the county, leaving the schoolroom to reside as wife over the home of the Hon. John Swenson of Sartoria. From this union there is one son John Swenson, Jr., now a young man grown. People who knew her in Kearney remember her as a gracious woman, of lovely character, with rare social charm and exceptional poetic and literary ability.

A host of friends will sympathize deeply with the bereaved husband and son in their affliction .

The mortal remains of the departed were laid to rest in the Kearney cemetery.
