Morris Clayton Taunton
Funeral services for Mr. Morris Clayton Taunton, 75, of Rocky Bottom Road, were held Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Coggins Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitch Griffin and the Rev. A.G. Windham officiating. Burial followed in Southview Cemetery.
Mr. Taunton died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003 at The Medical Center of Central Georgia.
Coggins Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Taunton was born in Taylor County, Ga., but lived in Thomaston for many years. He served his country in the United States Navy for two years serving on the U.S.S. Diaschenko. He then joined the United States Air Force where he retired as a staff sergeant with 20 years of service. While serving his country, Mr. Taunton earned the National Defense Service Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and The Joint Service Commendation Medal. Mr. Taunton was a member and trustee of the Thomaston First Freewill Baptist Church where he was also a member of the Adult Men's Sunday School Class. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Geraldine Collins Taunton of Thomaston; daughters, Mrs. Carol (Tyler) Carpenter and Mrs. Theresa (Leon) Puckett, all of Thomaston; brothers, Mr. Beason Taunton and Mr. Cecil Taunton, both of Georgetown and Mr. Roland Taunton and Mr. Zeno Taunton, both of Thomaston; a sister, Mrs. Lynda Passmore of Thomaston; and two grandsons, Mr. Daniel Pucckett and Mr. Joel Puckett.
