Mozelle Phillips
Funeral services for Mozelle Phillips, 91, of Wills Point, are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Seven Oaks Baptist Church north of Wills Point with Pastor Paul Johnson and Rev. Ron Dummer officiating. Interment will follow at Union Grove Cemetery near Gladewater under the direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point.
She passed away at her home Tuesday afternoon, March 29, 2011, in Wills Point surrounded by her children.
Mozelle was born October 5, 1919, in Gilmer, Texas, the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Medlin and Alma Lee Rains Medlin. She was born to a family who came from England to the New World in 1680 seeking religious freedoms. They followed a path from the Colony of Virginia, leading their family thru the Civil War and into Texas by 1870, making their home at East Mountain near Gilmer. She was raised in the East Mountain Community where she attended public school. On February 21, 1937, she married Hershel Phillips. Mozelle had been employed by Sears & Roebuck Company and retired from T.I. in 1963. She also had been employed by Phil's Corner & Bait Shop near Lake Tawakoni. Prior to moving to Wills Point in 1961, she lived in Garland. She enjoyed working in her yard, traveling, quilting, fishing and hunting. Mozelle loved her church family at Seven Oaks Baptist Church, where she was a charter member.
Preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Jefferson and Alma Lee Rains Medlin; husband, Hershel Phillips; two brothers, Herbert Medlin and Thurmon Medlin and a sister, Dimple Markham.
Mozelle is survived by two sons, Jerry Phillips & wife, Cecile, of Garland and Paul Phillips & wife, Dolores, of Wills Point; daughter, Suzanne Knudsen & husband, Rob, of Seattle, Washington; six grandchildren, Calvin Phillips, Jill Phillips, Pennie Johnson, Miles Phillips, Petrea Reilly and Eric Knudsen; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers: Calvin Phillips, Miles Phillips, Clinton Byrd, Pennie Johnson, Mike Reilly and Jill Phillips.
Honorary Pallbearers: Eric Knudsen and Petrea Reilly
Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 -- 8:00 p.m.
