Myrtis Marie Erskine Catanese
SHREVEPORT, LA - Myrtis Marie Catanese was born May 3, 1922 and passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2004. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Anthony J. Catanese; two daughters, Diane Stewart and Linda Youngblood; son-in-law, Tom Youngblood; five grandchildren, Kimberly Allard, Shelley Stewart, Mitchell Youngblood, Anna Youngblood and George Youngblood; sisters, Bertie Cicero and Florence Parker; brother, Waymon Erskine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was born in the small rural town of Sikes, LA and move to Shreveport after graduating from high school. Myris enjoyed a successful career as the buyer of Goldrings of New York in Shreveport and later became the store manager retiring in 1990. Myrtis was also actively involved with the Holiday in Dixie Cotillion. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Shreveport.
The family would like to thank Melvina Powell, Mattie Johnson, Frankie Richardson, Dr. Richard and Donna Barnett and the staff on the 3rd floor of Irving Place Nursing Home for their loving care during her struggle with Alzheimer's and Diabetes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Myrtis to the Alzheimer's Association or the Diabetes Association.
A service to celebrate Myrtis' life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2004 at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Newell Pugh. Interment will follow in Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 29, 2004 at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be her nephews.
