FUNERAL RITES HERE FRIDAY FOR N. B. HAMMOCK
Well-known Citizen, Ill Only a Few Hours, Is Survived by Large Family.
After a busy day placing things in order about the home he and wife had just a few days previously established, Mr. N. B. Hammock, well known citizen and a carpenter by trade, was stricken ill and died within a few hours about 10 p.[m.] Monday of a heart attack.
Nathan Bussey Hammock was born at Mauk, Ga., this county, April 15, 1872, the son of the late Mr. William J. Hammock and Mrs. Roxanna Virginia Hollis Hammock and in early young manhood was happily married to Miss Ada Fountain, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Fountain, who preceded him in death by 14 years. His second marriage to Mrs. Beatrice Smith of Manchester, Ga., was consumated only about a year ago.
Mr. Hammock had made his residence in Butler for the past 38 years and was closely identified with civi and religious life as well as business interest of this community in which he was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. Announcement of his sudden passing was a great shock and source of sorrow to the entire community.
Mr. Hammock's church interest was particularly directed to the Primitive Baptist faith and an outstanding member of Bethel church during his entire residence in Butler, and where funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock in the morning conducted by Elder Haskell McCorkle, assisted by Rev. F. J. Gilbert, with interment in the family lot near by.
Pall beare[r]s will include: Frank Willis, Comer Wall, Lewis Wall, A. J. Fountain, Edward Hollis and W. O. Alrid.
Besides his wife, Mr. Hammock is survived by the following sons and daughters: Lt. W. Jack Hammock, Camp Barkeley, Texas; Mr. Hollis Hammock, Columbus; Mr. George Hammock of this city; Mrs. Anne Hess, Mt. Vernon, Ohio; Mrs. Felton Blaxton and Mrs. Johnnie Newton of this city; two sisters, Mrs. John Willis, Quincy, Fla.; and Mrs. Perry Harrison, Quitman, Texas; also six grandchildren.
Among the out-of-town friends and relatives here to attend the funeral tomorrow are: Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Wilson and daughter, June, of Manchester; Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Smith, of Columbus; Mrs. J. T. Willis of Quincy, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Willis, of Panama City, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hess of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Wall, of Thomasville; Mr. and Mrs. oe Wall of Macon; Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Baldwin, of Crest; Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Aldridge of Atlanta; Lt. and Mrs. Jack Hammock of Camp Barkley, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Hammock and family of Columbus; Mr. Alonza Wall and Mr. and Mrs. Coma Wall of Columbus.
