Mrs. Jay, 94, Dies at Home In DeBerry
Mrs. Nellie Twomey Jay, 84, widow of the late R. C. Jay, died Wednesday evening at her home in DeBerry following an illness of about two and a half weeks.
A native of Carthage, she was born Dec. 23, 1880. She was the daughter of Mr. Henry Twomey and the former Mary Spradley, both natives of Texas.
She and the late Robinson Crittenden Jay were married Jan. 20, 1900. Mr. Jay died June 2, 1964.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday from the Mt. Zion Methodist Church at DeBerry conducted by Rev. Ethan Henderson, pastor. Interment was in Garden of Peace Colonial Gardens in Marshall.
Survivors include eight daughters, Mrs. C. P. Studdard and Miss Cecil Jay, both of Bethany; Mrs. Mildred Cochrane and Mrs. Nell Thompson both of Tyler, Mrs. Emma Cochrane, Reno, Nev., Mrs. Lee Sherman, Hollywood, Calif., Mrs. J. J. Mobley, San Antonio, and Mrs. Mary Lee Johnson, Baytown; two sons, R. H. Jay, Dallas, and R. B. Jay, Hallsville; one brother, W. B. Twomey, Tenaha; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were J. H. Lawless, Jr., George C. Tiller, Jr., Essell Lawless, Henry Pope Munden, Jimmy Lawless, and Delbert Twomey.
