Rev. Shows, 81, Dies at Meeker

The Rev. Newson [sic Newsom] T. Shows died at Meeker at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. A retired Baptist minister, he was well known in Avoyelles, St. Landry and Point Coupee parishes.

He was 81, a native of Columbia, La. He had, for the past several years, resided at Meeker with his daughter, Mrs. E.F. Kramer. Rev. Shows had been ill since October.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in the Baptist Church at Melville. The body will rest at the family residence at Melville until time for the service. Lafond and Son Funeral Home, Opelousas, is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Shows is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Lucille Jones of Houston, Tex.; Mrs. E.F. Kramer of Meeker, Mrs. W.B. James of Dallas, Tex., Mrs. W.B. Flowers of Port Lavaca, Tex., and Mrs. J.H. Welch of Lake Charles; two sons, Newton W. Shows of Melville, and John R. Shows of Grand Isle; 16 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
