Nina G. Sumner, 90

Nina Gilbert Sumner, 90, of 504 Canal St., Dunn, formerly of Benson, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn. She was born Dec. 25, 1918, in Johnston County to the late Loamie and Nina Mercer Wilkins Gilbert. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Pearce Sumner. She was a graduate of Meredith College. Mrs. Sumner retired as a chemistry and science teacher after 29 years. She taught at Lemon Springs, Aycock School, Meadow High School and South Johnston High School. She was an adult education teacher for more than 21 years at Johnston Community College. Mrs. Sumner was a member of Westfield Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held noon Saturday at Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson by the Rev. Chris Dawson. Burial will follow at Benson City Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Joe Sumner and wife Bridgett of Benson; a niece, Sandra Graves and husband Jimmy of Maxton; and a great-nephew, Gary Graves.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
