Mrs. Nodie Jones Dies in Hospital

Mrs. Nodie Smith Jones, the widow of the late Judge Wiley R. Jones, died of a heart attack at 9:45 a.m. today.

Mrs. Jones was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital, after a Hixson Bros. Funeral Home ambulance rushed her from her home on Hill street extension where she was stricken.

She had lived in Alexandria for about 12 years, moving her from Colfax. She was a member of the First Methodist Church.

Mrs. Jones was active in church, civic and charitable work. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Alexandria Garden Club, and Women's Society of Christian Services.

She was born on her father's plantation near Montgomery 70 years ago, the daughter of Ida Estelle Payne and Noah Dupont Smith.

Her late husband presided over the 8th Judicial Districk Court in Colfax for many years.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Hixson Bros. Funeral Home chapel. Her pastor, Dr. Guy M. Hicks, will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Greenwood Memorial Park.

Members of the family request that donations be made to the heart association instead of sending flowers.
