Norine Powers

Norine Amanda Powers, 91, of Bryan, passed away on February 13, 2010 at Lampstand Health and Rehab. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, February 15 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan. Services are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 16 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Steep Hollow Cemetery.

Norine was born August 6, 1918 in the Bushdale Community near Rockdale, to John and Lucy Stork. She graduated from Rockdale High School in 1936 and from Cameron Nursing School in 1939. Norine moved to Bryan, working at the Bryan Hospital and later as a nurse for Dr. L. O. Wilkerson until 1958. Following her nursing career, she worked for 25 years in the office of the Brazos County Farm Bureau, retiring in 1983. She married William N. ``Slick'' Powers Sr., now deceased, on December 11, 1940. To that union two sons were born, William N. ``Bill'' Powers Jr. and Kenneth R. ``Slick'' Powers.

Norine was active in the Steep Hollow Baptist Church beginning in 1948. She taught Sunday School for 48 years, and was the church secretary for more than 20 years. Most recently she became a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Madison County.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1952. She was Worthy Matron in 1959. She was also a member of the Social Order of the Beauceant for many years.

Survivors include sons; Bill Powers and wife, Evelyn and Kenneth ``Slick'' Powers and wife, Cindy; grandchildren, Clay Powers and wife, Becky, Trey Powers and wife, Kara, Shannon Powers Peterson and husband, Nils and great-grandchildren, Carly Powers, Abby Powers, Nathan Powers, Millie Powers, and Gwen Peterson.
