Norma Hilton Birdwell
Norma Faye Hilton Birdwell, age 81, of Bastrop, Texas, passed away quietly in her sleep March 19, 2011 at the Lost Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on March 21, 1929 in a West Texas oilfield tent, she is preceded in death by her mother Ruby Lewis Hilton and father Roy Lee Hilton, both of Houston, then later Austin Texas, and her sister Laverne Oliver, previously of Tampa Florida.
Upon graduation from high school in Houston Texas, she attended Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany Oklahoma where she met her husband of 61 years, James William Birdwell. They were married in 1950, and resided in Houston, Texas until moving to Austin in 1968. After a few years in Seoul, South Korea and Yucaipa, California from 1987 until 1994, they returned to Texas and retired to Bastrop. Of her many accomplishments she most enjoyed and loved to recall were raising four great citizens, praying for two boys and two girls on her wedding night and teaching English to Korean students while in Seoul.
She is survived by her husband, and her daughters, Phyllis Birdwell and Faye Randal both of Bastrop Texas, and sons Wes and David, grandson Jason, and granddaughters Jessica, Theresa, and Ella, all of Austin, Texas.
She loved to paint, knit, and take walks. If you appreciated something she had painted or made, she would gladly offer it to you. She was loved and will be missed, but her family knows she is with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Visitation with the family will be at the Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6700 North Lamar Boulevard, Monday evening March 21, 2011, from 6-8 PM. A private graveside service for the family will occur the day following, performed by Pastor Phil Woods, of the First Assembly of God Church in Bastrop Texas.
