Norma Staples Hawkins
Sept. 22, 1923 - March 12, 2003

FERRIDAY, La. -- Services for Norma Staples Hawkins, 79, of Baton Rouge, who died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Baton Rouge General, will be at 10 a.m. today at Young's Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Gray officiating.

Burial will follow in Columbia Hill Cemetery under the direction of the funeral home.

Mrs. Hawkins was born Sept. 22, 1923, in Calhoun.

She worked with the Louisiana Department of Helath and Human Services and was a member of First Baptist Church of Ferriday.

Mrs. Hawkins was preceded in death by her husband, John Russ Hawkins Jr.; her father, James Jake Staples; her mother, Pearl Staples; one son, John Russ Hawkins III; six brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Jean H. Griffin and her husband, Jesse, both of Baton Rouge, and Mary Jane Wilcoxson and her husband, Larry, both of Walker; six grandchildren, Amy J. Griffin, John C. Griffin, Amber S. Wilcoxson, Jake Wilcoxson, Stacey H. Hoover and John Hawkins; and two great-grandchildren, Jesse Taylor Griffin and Gaige Ian Wilcoxson.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

The family requests memorials be made to the Louisiana Alzheimer's Association.
