Norman Franklin Dean
August 20, 1932 - August 23, 2014

Norman Franklin Dean, age 82, a lifelong resident of Maury County, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at The Arbors in Spring Hill.

Norman was born August 20, 1932 in Columbia as the youngest of four children born to Paul Dodson Dean and Daisy Cheek Dean.

Norman was educated in Maury County and graduated in 1950 from Central High School. He graduated from Columbia Business College and attended college in Colorado Springs, CO. He owned and operated Dean Realty, Southern Realty, Norman Dean Land & Auction Company and N. F. Dean Realty & Auction Company, selling property in Maury County and surrounding counties for more than 40 years. He served in the Army National Guard and in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served in the Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colorado and Tokyo, Japan. He was a member of West Seventh Street Church of Christ.

Norman, an avid golfer, enjoyed his weekly golf outings with friends in Murfreesboro. He also enjoyed meeting friends for coffee early each morning.

Norman is survived by his wife of 62 years, Amelia Parks Dean; one daughter, Allison Dean Love and her husband, Phil Love, of Columbia SC; his sister, Ann Graham of Columbia; brother-in-law Harold Parks and sisters-in-law, LaBetha Parks and Jewell Dean. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Thomas Ashton, William (Billy) Dean and Waylan Dean, sister, Doris Ashton Inman, brothers-in-law William Inman, Henry Graham, Lawrence Hill Parks, Charles Kenneth Parks and James Leslie Parks and sisters-in-law, Norma Lee Ashton, Phyllis Parks and Bettye Parks.

His nieces and nephews are Thomas (Nedra) Ashton, Houston, TX, Tim (Julie) Ashton, Denham Springs, LA; David (Susan) Ashton, Austin, TX; Eddie Inman, Lynnville; Brenda Graham McGrath, Knoxville; Ken (Rowena) Graham, Franklin; Teresa Dean, Columbia; Lisa Dean, Franklin; Chuck (Tracy) Dean, Columbia; Linda (Ray) Dzikowski, Fleming Island, FL; Alan (Sheila) Parks, Americus, GA; Kathy (John) Pewitt, Thompson's Station; Pebby (Eddie) McClain, Jacksonville, FL; Tracey (Kim) Parks, Lebanon and David (Meg) Parks, Gallatin. He was preceded in death by nephew, Douglas Dean.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 26 at Morton Cemetery in the Leftwich Bridge Community with Jerry Elder officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.
