Norris E. Sills Sr.
Services for retired Maj. Gen. Norris E. Sills Sr. will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Hixson Bros., Pineville, with Dr. Larry Baker officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Pineville.
Sills, 70, of Pineville died at 4 a.m. Thursday in Summit Retirement Center.
He was a native of Crowville and a member of First Baptist Church, Pineville, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Sills retired as a major general with the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a veteran of World War II. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal and the Meritorious Medal from the U.S. Army.
He was a graduate of Louisiana College, the U.S. Naval Academy, Louisiana State University Graduate School and Industrial College for Armed Services.
He was also an associate professor of physics at Louisiana College and the recipient of the 1988 Distinguished Alumnus Award.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Carey Payne Sills of Pineville; one son, Lt. Col. Norris E. Sills Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Susan Sills Darden of Grand Junction, Colo., and Virginia Sills Gwaltney of Baton Rouge; one brother, Dr. Robert Sills of Natchitoches; five sisters, Elaine Sills Kelley of Ringgold, Nell Sills Tolbert of Houma, Sylvia Sills Brown of Waco, Texas, Dixie Sills Smith of Alexandria and Ann Sills Thornton of Monroe; and nine grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. until time of services Saturday in the funeral home.
