NOVIE LOWREY
December 22, 1916 - June 7, 2010

Novie Driggers Lowrey age 93 of Selma passed away at a local hospital on Monday June 7, 2010. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday June 9, 2010 at New Live Oak Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Jerry Light, Sr. officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Lowrey is preceded in death by her parents, Ralston Mal and Emma Swann Driggers, her four brothers, Wilmer, Ralph, Ned, and Billy Driggers, her husbands, Lemon A. “Ham” Lowrey and Sam L. Bierd, Jr. and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Wayne) Middlebrooks of Selma, her son, Richard (Carmelita) Watkins of Selma, grandchildren, Sam Watkins of Tallahassee, FL, Pamela (Andrew) Page of Largo, FL, Kerri (Chet) Chappelle of Selma, Erik (Sara) Middlebrooks of Gainseville, FL, great-grandchildren, Kamryn Chappelle of Selma, Emmalee Chappelle of Selma and Drake Chappelle of Selma.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and was so proud of her entire family. Some of her happiest years were spent working with her brothers as bookkeeper for Driggers Motor Company. In earlier years, she and her brothers enjoyed singing gospel music as “The Driggers Quartet,” for which she played the piano for, as well as numerous other quartets at the time. She was a church pianist and was known throughout the area for her beautiful musical talent, as well as her creativity in sewing and other needlework. Above all, she was a wonderful mother and her greatest love was for her family. She will always be greatly loved and missed.

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Homewood Assisted Living for their love and care to both of our parents in their last years. Because of her love for dogs, the family suggests donations to the Selma Animal Shelter, 206 Medical Center Parkway, Selma, Alabama 36701.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday June 8, 2010 at the funeral home.
