ODELL NEWMAN PARKER

Odell Newman Parker, 79, of the Glade Community, Laurel, Miss., died Sunday, May 16, 2004 at South Central Regional Medical Center.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today, May 17, 2004 at Memory Chapel. Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at Memory Chapel with the Rev. Mike Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Parker worked at Masonite much of his early life before being elected constable of Beat 3, Jones County for three, four-year terms. Mr. Parker truly loved people and spent his life helping all. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Glade Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Phillip Scott Shaw; two brothers, Curtis V. Parker and Oree Parker; one sister, Nettie Welch, all of whom lived in Jones County.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Brogan Parker; three children, Ronald Parker, Gary Parker and Rhonda Gail Shaw and son-in-law, Phillip Shaw, all of whom live in Laurel, Miss.; two grandchildren, Niel Parker of Oak Grove, Miss., and Melissa Shaw Stacy of Podeau, Okla.; three great-grandchildren, Madison Dumas, Michaela Stacy and Brock Stacy, all of Podeau, Okla.; and two sisters, Mildred Archey and Hazel May, both of Laurel, Miss.

Pallbearers will be David Hayes, Roland May, Tommy Brogan, Donald Brogan, and Mickey Holifield and Mark Brogan.

Memory Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
